41 La Liga Goals for Messi

Messi scored both goals last night in Barcelona's 2-1 win away to at Levante. Barcelona trailed 1-0 until the 64th minute, when Messi played a brilliant one-two with Alexis Sanchez and then stroked the ball into the corner of the net. The goal gave Barcelona the belief that they needed, as Levante had put in a very impressive defensive display up until that point. Messi's second goal came from the penalty spot after Cuenca was fouled inside the box.

The win means that Barcelona will host Real Madrid next Saturday in El Clasico only 4 points behind. Barcelona have now won 11 matches in a row in La Liga. Messi and Ronaldo will go into next weekend's Clasico both on 41 league goals this season, already a record in Spanish football. The match comes between the two legs of both side's Champions League Semi-Finals, and it is now a huge week and a half for both sides.

Lionel Messi has now scored 63 goals this season in all competitions. He needs 5 more this season to break Gerd Muller's all-time record of 67 goals in one season.

Messi's first goal last night came after a pass from Alexis Sanchez. Messi beat the last defender and rifled a shot high into the top left-hand corner. The goal put Barcelona 2-1 ahead, after they had gone behind to Zaragoza after 30 minutes. Messi's second goal came from the penalty spot after Sanchez was brought down inside the box.
