41 La Liga Goals for Messi

Messi scored both goals last night in Barcelona's 2-1 win away to at Levante. Barcelona trailed 1-0 until the 64th minute, when Messi played a brilliant one-two with Alexis Sanchez and then stroked the ball into the corner of the net. The goal gave Barcelona the belief that they needed, as Levante had put in a very impressive defensive display up until that point. Messi's second goal came from the penalty spot after Cuenca was fouled inside the box.

The win means that Barcelona will host Real Madrid next Saturday in El Clasico only 4 points behind. Barcelona have now won 11 matches in a row in La Liga. Messi and Ronaldo will go into next weekend's Clasico both on 41 league goals this season, already a record in Spanish football. The match comes between the two legs of both side's Champions League Semi-Finals, and it is now a huge week and a half for both sides.

Lionel Messi has now scored 63 goals this season in all competitions. He needs 5 more this season to break Gerd Muller's all-time record of 67 goals in one season.

Messi gets to 60 goals

Messi 60 goals

Last night during Barcelona's 4-1 win at Real Zaragoza, Lionel Messi scored two more goals to take his season total in all competitions to 60 goals. Messi also regained the lead in the race for the Pichichi. Cristiano Ronaldo has 37 league goals this season, while Messi now has 38.

Messi's first goal last night came after a pass from Alexis Sanchez. Messi beat the last defender and rifled a shot high into the top left-hand corner. The goal put Barcelona 2-1 ahead, after they had gone behind to Zaragoza after 30 minutes. Messi's second goal came from the penalty spot after Sanchez was brought down inside the box. Messi smashed the penalty high and straight down the middle of the goal to bring his amazing goal tally to 60.

If Barcelona reach the Final of the Champions League, Messi could play in another 11 matches this season, giving him ample opportunity to raise his goalscoring total even higher!

Messi scores twice as Barcelona beat Milan

Lionel Messi scored two penalties last night in Barcelona's Champions League Quarter-Final second leg tie with AC Milan. Messi himself was brought down in the box by Antonini for the first penalty, which he dispatched to the goalkeeper's right. The second penalty was given when Nesta was pulling Sergio Busquets' shirt inside the area at a corner, this time Messi struck the penalty into the opposite corner.

Andres Iniesta got Barcelona's third goal, and while Milan did look dangerous at times, Barcelona always looked to have the game under control. Barcelona are now in the Semi-Finals for the fifth straight year, and they will face either Chelsea or Benfica.
